Raku Pottery

Each Raku piece is made by hand, and fired in the outdoor kiln at 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The piece is then pulled from the red hot kiln and plunged into a sand pit with wood chips. The intense heat of Raku piece causes the wood shavings to spontaneously ignite. As a result, the flames create something special with unique colors. The outdoor atmosphere shocks the glaze, causing very distinct cracks in the finish.

Not every piece survives the trial by fire, but the ones that do cultivate strength and beauty.
